  • 16.02.08 Into the Wild

    2007 by Sean Penn
Just finished seeing it. Good film.

  • 14.09.07 The Science of Sleep

    The Science of Sleep

La Science des Reves (2006) by Michel Gondry.

A very creative fantasy-romance-comedy-movie. This is the type of movie at the end you see yourself with a warm smile in your face. It reminded me the movies are an art where there are still a few good artists expressing themselves.

Comparable to another excellent movie in the same category: You Me And Everyone You Know (2005) by Miranda July.

  • 15.07.07 After the Wedding

(Efter brylluppet) Denmark/Sweden 2006, by Susane Bier.

An excellent drama movie. Perfect acting in a articulated real-life plot.

  • 02.04.04 Lost In Translation experience

If you, as me, really liked the movie you can “Enjoy Being Lost in Translation at Park Hyatt Tokyo”.
The hotel offers a package “which mirrors the adventures of the film’s main characters”.
    Lovely!

  • 27.01.04 And the Oscar goes to…

I got really excited when saw Cidade de Deus (City of God) was nominated for 4 Oscars: directing, cinematography, film editing and writing (adapted screenplay).
Even if it doesn’t win any statue, it already means a victory for Brazilian cinema.

  • 14.12.03 Private Parts

Private Parts, 1997 - A very funny and entertaining autobiography movie of Howard Stern, a famous radio DJ in NY.

  • 17.08.03 Final Destination 2

Final Destination 2, 2003, by David R. Ellis
An effective thriller… with creative and good-quality death scenes… ;)
A girl has a premonition of a highway accident and prevents a group of people from dying. But Death had already made up its mind…

  • 16.08.03 The Italian Job

The Italian Job, 2003, by Gary Gray. With Mark Walberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton.
Action movie, the perfect entertainment, as its meaning: “something diverting or engaging” (Merrian-Websters Online).
Thieves, gold, speed, traitor, explosions, car chases, with a nice screen play and famous actors.

  • 11.08.03 The Big One

The Big One, 1998, by Michael Moore.
It is the third of Moore’s films that we see. We started with the blockbusting Bowling for Columbine (2002), that was a punch in the face. A portrait of contemporary american behavior and (for me) an introduction for their politics.
We liked Moore and his serious-critique-with-irony-and-fun style so much that we ended up seeing Roger&Me (1989) a couple of months later. Also a really good movie.
Finally yesterday we saw The Big One. As we could expect, he is simply genius the way he presents his cause, and you feel completely involved. The dirty things you always knew that surrounded us gets more clear.

  • 03.08.03 Moebius

Moebius, 1996, by Prof. Gustavo Masquera R.
Interesting movie by the students of Universidad del Cine, Argentina.
Buenos Aires metro has missing train inside its net. A mathematician will help findind out were is it.

  • 29.07.03 Naked Lunch

    1991, by David Cronenberg.
A surrealistic movie: I would suggest not to try to go in depth with the meanings… it is hard to understand what the hell is going on!
But it is really fun if you simply enjoy the crazy events that happens with the main character.
Here is a nice review I agree with.

  • 27.07.03 Crash

    Crash, 1996, by David Croonenberg.
I even had a discussion with Lorenzo yesterday after seen the movie, because he supported that it was a good one and I disagreed. I didn’t (and don’t) like the main theme - Crash fetish - and thought the the movie exposed too much something that I’m not interested in knowing in depth.
But… after a good night of sleep and a fresh mind, a must agree with him: it is a good movie. Cronenberg was simply fantastic not only on the shootings and aesthetics, but on keeping you hypnotized seing something you don’t or shouldn’t want to see - like a car crash.

  • 26.07.03 Cidade de Deus

Cidade de Deus(City of God) 2002, by Fernando Meirelles.
A portrait of brazilian favela’s life, hierarchy and culture.
What to say… excellent. The movie is realistic and the actors performances are great.
Maybe it exceeded a bit with shooting effects. I think there was no need for that because the screenplay is already fantastic by itself.

  • 26.07.03 movies

Since I like very much the movies, I thought it deserved a category in my blog.
With no pretentious purpose at all, I just want to share my personal opinion about this wonderful and magic art.

  • 21.04.03 Movies on holidays

    well… happy easter everybody…
I spent these holidays watching movies at home. I suggest: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), Carlito’s Way (1993), and the best of all… Los Lunes al Sol (2002), a Spanish movie from director Fernando Leon de Aranoa!

  • 06.11.02 Moviemaniac

I’m going to start my blog writing about something that I really like: the movies! Last weekend I saw “donnie darko” (by richard kelly), an american independent production. It’s a very well constructed thriller, the kind you finish seeing and think you’ve missed something. With a movie like this you end up looking for spoilers to see if you can understand the sequence of the events. The same thing happened to me when I saw “memento” (christopher nolan) and “mulholland drive” (david lynch).
